Whitehouse Machine Tools has been appointed the sales and service agent for Mitsubishi Electric’s industry-leading range of wire-cut and die-sink EDM (electrical discharge machining) equipment in the UK and Ireland (www.wmtcnc.com/edm-machines). The strategic partnership represents a significant expansion of the agent’s portfolio, bringing one of the world’s most respected EDM brands under the umbrella of an established supplier of machine tools to manufacturing industry, including Brother, Spinner and Biglia machining centres and CNC lathes.
Mitsubishi Electric launched its first commercial die-sink EDM machine in 1964, followed by its first wire-cut model in 1972. The company’s European presence expanded rapidly in the late 1970s. Mitsubishi Electric Europe B.V. established an official representation in Germany in 1978, followed a year later by the opening of the first Mitsubishi Electric factory in Haddington, UK.
By 1984, the company had manufactured 10,000 EDM systems, with a significant portion of production targeted toward global tooling and precision engineering hubs. The total number of EDM machines built has now reached 75,000. In 1991, the company established an independent sales, marketing and service organisation in Ratingen, Germany, which remains the European Factory Automation headquarters today.
As part of the new agency agreement, Scott Elsmere and Dean Barnes, experienced engineers with decades of technical sales experience and applications expertise in manufacturing industry and who have recently sold Mitsubishi Electric EDM machines, have both joined the Whitehouse team to ensure seamless continuity of service. The first demonstration machine, an MV2400S wire-cut model for machining components to a general accuracy of ≥ 3 µm and a roughness down to Ra 0.3 µm, will arrive imminently at the new agent’s Kenilworth showroom and technical centre.
Renowned globally for over half a century for exceptional precision, high-speed production and innovative energy-saving features that cut power consumption by up to 40%, Mitsubishi EDM machines are widely used in the aerospace, automotive, medical device manufacturing and high-end toolmaking sectors. By integrating these innovative machines into its existing product range, Whitehouse Machine Tools is broadening its reputation as a provider of world-class machining solutions to OEMs and subcontractors.
A core element of the partnership is a commitment to customer support and technical service. Recognising the critical nature of machine uptime in modern manufacturing, Whitehouse Machine Tools has invested in establishing a dedicated, manufacturer-trained service division to support all of its machine tool brands across the UK and Ireland. This infrastructure ensures that new customers and existing users of Mitsubishi EDM technology will benefit from rapid engineering response times, extensive local spare parts availability and expert applications support.
Peter Smith, Sales & Marketing Director at Whitehouse Machine Tools commented, “The Mitsubishi Electric EDM range is a natural fit alongside our existing CNC machine tool portfolio, complementing our current manufacturing partners without overlapping processes.
“The precision, reliability and energy efficiency that define Mitsubishi Electric’s EDM products align perfectly with the standards we set across our CNC technology offerings.
“Our introduction of Mitsubishi Electric EDM to the UK & Irish market is further strengthened by the OEM’s European technical support facility near Düsseldorf, as well as the addition of two experienced UK-based specialists who, while new to Whitehouse Machine Tools, each bring over 30 years of expertise supporting Mitsubishi Electric EDM products across our market. So, for existing customers it’s business as usual.”
