This year marks the 30th anniversary of AAG. Established originally as AXYZ International by Canada-based Alf Zeuner and Gary Harvey, AAG has experienced significant exponential growth to become recognised not only as a pioneering global influence on the advancement of CNC routing/cutting technology but also contemporaneously one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high-performance CNC machining solutions. These are supplied via a network of strategically located machine assembly and distribution centres, including Telford, Shropshire in the UK.
To mark this seminal date, AAG will until 15th May be running a series of special promotions, including unprecedented discounted pricing, for its AXYZ and WARDJet machines, together with new customer support initiatives for the radically upgraded CNCShop e-commerce spare parts, accessories and consumables 24/7 online resource.
Of particular appeal to AAG customers will be the compelling price discounts available on AXYZ and WARDjet machines. These represent savings of 20 percent and 10 percent respectively, with every machine suppled packed with a raft of both standard and optional machine enhancements to enable increased productivity levels.
There are now over 10,000 AAG machine installations worldwide supplied to a diverse range of industries. These include primarily those in the furniture production, general woodworking and engineering, signage and graphics manufacturing, metal and plastics fabrication, packaging and print finishing sectors, founded on long-running and successful business partnerships forged between AAG and its customers.
OMAX and Hypertherm successfully close merger agreement
OMAX Corporation, the manufacturer of abrasive waterjet systems, and Hypertherm, the US-based manufacturer of industrial cutting systems and software, has announced the successful closing of a previously announced agreement to establish OMAX as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hypertherm.
The agreement, first announced on March 20, formally combines OMAX’s industry leading direct drive pumps, software and applications technologies with Hypertherm’s complementary portfolio of intensifier-based pumps and abrasive recycling systems to form the industry’s leading waterjet technology offering.
“As one of the world’s top waterjet manufacturers, we are excited to officially join forces with a company that shares our values and vision to deliver the industry’s broadest and most technologically advanced line-up of waterjet products,” says OMAX co-founder and CEO John Cheung. “The Hypertherm culture and business philosophy is remarkably similar and complementary to OMAX, and I have no doubt, the company I founded will keep a keen focus on the needs of our valued customers, as we have done for the past 25 years. The OMAX Corporation, and all it stands for, is in great hands with a very bright future ahead of it.”
“We are confident the combination of OMAX and Hypertherm will advance our strategy of delivering diverse, technology-driven cutting solutions focused on dramatic improvements in customer outcomes”, says Hypertherm president and CEO Evan Smith. “In uniting with OMAX, Hypertherm can combine the strengths of two highly talented engineering groups, OMAX engineers in Washington state with our waterjet group in Minnesota, to accelerate new waterjet technologies to market.
“We have great respect for OMAX and its products and look forward to working closely with the OMAX team to build upon its founding legacy.”

OMAX Corporation celebrates 25 years of leading waterjet technology
OMAX Corporation, is celebrating 25 years of leading waterjet technology. A special event takes place at OMAX’s Kent, Washington campus on July 27th, 2018. The event will feature the latest advancements in waterjet machining, live cutting demonstrations and tours of the company’s manufacturing factory.
Dr. John Cheung and Dr. John Olsen founded OMAX in 1993, having found a way to revolutionise the waterjet machining method. A new type of motion control technology and proprietary software ushered the development of the first truly affordable waterjet system to offer fast, precise and consistent results. Today, OMAX Corporation shapes the future of waterjet machining with diverse, highly advanced product solutions that offer the broadest range of table sizes, pumps, accessories, and software on the market.
OMAX Corporation’s 225,000 square foot facility will be on full display for the anniversary event. From research and development to bridge assembly, visitors will tour the entire process of how a waterjet machine is created. You will see where OMAX’s largest waterjet machines are assembled, in addition to how direct-drive pumps are built. Learn about what your waterjet can do in the training centre and then see it for yourself in demonstration lab.
Event attendees will be able to experience the new ProtoMAX abrasive waterjet. ProtoMAX is a compact, self-installed cutting system ideally suited for prototyping and relatively low volume cutting of almost any material under two inches thick. The ProtoMAX brings all the versatility benefits of large abrasive waterjet cutters in a sleek and economic package that’s perfect for small job shops, engineering classrooms, makerspaces and for personal use.
In 2017, the OMAX Corporation achieved ISO 9001:2015 certification. This latest edition of the ISO 9001 quality management standard covers design, development, production and service and ensures the company has a process for continuous improvement in all four areas.
OMAX’s abrasive waterjet technology provides a flexible and beneficial alternative to more conventional machining. Abrasive waterjet machines accurately cut simple to complex shapes from virtually any material and thickness significantly faster than traditional CNC machining techniques. Furthermore, the cold-cutting process of waterjet machining eliminates thermal stress in the workpiece material, preventing the hardening and warping that often occurs during conventional cutting processes.
